While Denver survives (reuniting with his father Moscow in a dream sequence), Helsinki suffers a brutal, agonizing demise. Captured by Sagasta, he is beaten and ultimately shot. However, in a surprising twist, Helsinki survives long enough to be rescued by Palermo and Manila, only to later die from his injuries in the arms of his friends. Season 5 did not shy away from realistic fatality.

Cornered by Sagasta’s military team and severely wounded by sniper fire, Tokyo realizes she cannot escape. She allows Rio to say a tearful goodbye through a hole in the floor before facing the soldiers alone. As Gandía stands over her triumphantly, she smiles and reveals she has pulled the pins on four grenades strapped to her chest. The resulting explosion kills Tokyo, takes out Gandía, and decimates the military squad. Her death serves as the ultimate catalyst that unites the remaining gang members for the final push.
