The trio boards the CSS Birmingham , a Confederate warship. They navigate the treacherous sea, encountering (sisters who form a deadly strait). When Clarisse’s ship explodes, they wash up on an island belonging to Circe , the sorceress who turns men into guinea pigs. Hermes helps them escape. They finally locate Polyphemus’s island. Clarisse and her crew catch up, and a fight ensues against the Cyclops and his carnivorous sheep.
