The plot of Chamatkar follows Sunder Srivastava (Shah Rukh Khan), a naive young teacher from a small village whose only dream is to fulfill his father's wish of building a school on their small piece of land. Easily fooled, he is conned out of his life savings by a childhood friend in Mumbai, leaving him stranded, penniless, and homeless in the big city.
