The very existence of Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama is an incredible story in itself. It all began with Japanese producer and director . While filming a documentary in India in the 1980s, Sako was deeply moved by the Ramayana, observing how the story held the nation in a "standstill". Convinced that animation, not live-action, was the only way to respectfully depict the divine Prince Rama, he embarked on a mission to create a full-length anime adaptation.
