: Updates firmware or resets the printer after replacing critical parts like the logic board.

Importantly, the term "Service Tool" is sometimes confused with the "Maintenance Tool" that installs automatically with your printer driver. The Maintenance Tool (available through Windows via Devices & Printers > Printing Preferences > Maintenance tab) handles routine tasks like cleaning, alignment, and nozzle checks. The Service Tool, by contrast, is a separate, deeper-access utility used for resets and printer reprogramming after component replacement.

If you attempt to use an outdated or counterfeit version of the Service Tool on a newer Canon printer, the printer’s firmware may permanently lock up. When a mainboard is locked, it will refuse to enter Service Mode entirely, and the orange alarm light will blink constantly. The only fix for a locked board is replacing the physical EEPROM chip or buying a new mainboard. Remember the Physical Ink Pads

Do not use Wi-Fi or a network connection, as the Service Tool cannot detect printers over a network. Step 3: Run the Software and Reset
